Spectators cannot attend college sports events. Wolf said the continuation of college sports might continue per federal and state health directives.
The new restrictions were announced the same day a vaccine was approved to immunize people against the virus, though the rollout is still to come.
Previous reopening procedures
COVID-19 Casino Reopening Protocols were part of the previous reopenings. They detailed minimum safety and health-related requirements that are mandatory before reopening.
The key points then were:
- Casinos can reopen at 50% capacity.
- Employees and guests must wear masks.
- There are markings on the floor to promote social distancing.
- Mandatory enhanced cleaning is required throughout the facility.
At first, poker rooms were not authorized to operate following the first shutdown due to players' handling of cards and chips.
But by mid-November, five of the nine live poker rooms in PA had reopened.
When the Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady, New York opened back in February, it was not surprising to see the new casino overcrowded with guests. The weekends were especially busy as visitors came from all around to see what the new venue had to offer. As far as poker is concerned, the Rivers Casino features a poker room with fifteen tables. When the casino opened, crowds were so large in the poker room that players had to either find something else to do or put their name on a waiting list in order to be allowed inside once someone else left. The poker room has seen a flurry of activity which has now led to a new tournament schedule that officially launched today.
The casino announced earlier this year that they planned on offering poker tournaments on weekday mornings but would be unable to launch the tournaments until approval was given by the New York State Gaming Commission. The Gaming Commission has now reviewed the poker tournament plans of the Rivers Casino and No Limit Hold'em poker tournaments began today and will be on schedule for the remainder of the month.
The No Limit Hold'em poker tournaments will run Monday to Thursday and take place at 9:30 am. There will be a second tournament taking place each Monday at 6:30 pm, for those who are unable to attend the early morning events. Buy-ins are $75 with seating for 10 players at each poker table.
On Tuesday and Thursday, the poker room at the Rivers will feature No Limit Hold'em Bounty Tournaments with an added $25 charge to the buy-in. The extra cash gives players a bounty chip which is connected to an extra prize opportunity at the casino. When a player is eliminated, they give the chip to the player who made the elimination and the extra prize is awarded when the winner of the tournament is determined.
These new tournaments are a response by the casino to the popularity of poker in the region. It will be interesting to see the turnout for the month of April and if the casino will plan on adding more tournament options in the coming months.
