Nut Slot Height Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair BG' started by Old Fart, Dec 15, 2013. Dec 15, 2013 #1. Old Fart Supporting Member. A slot that is cut correctly should hold the string in place at a height that clears the first fret. Sometimes a guitar nut slot will wear down over time and cause the string to rattle against the first fret, causing the open string to sound a little more like a sitar than a guitar. Final nut height has a huge impact in the overall dynamics and perceived tension of the guitar. I researched and read a lot of info on the web and TGP about recommended nut height as compared to the height of the frets and most info recommends it should be just over that height. Say about.006.010 some suggested almost fret height. Casino cours fauriel saint etienne des.

I did a Search but couldn't find anything here that covers this? Probably me. Oh well...I called Fender they said, The String height at the Nut & 1st Fret should be .020mm. My Feeler Gauge goes as high as .027mm & the String height is way higher than that. I presume the Frets need Filing. Which I've never done before. Although I have Files In my Set up Tool Kit.
Are there standard String Height Measurements or Specs for Guitars? Are they all the same? Doubt it? Is there a Link here anyone can direct me to about String Height Specs & how to File Nuts?
Thanks,
